Repair Products(79)

Repair products in the DILLING care range are designed to extend the life of wool and other natural fibre garments. Extending the wear of a garment through repair is more resource-efficient than replacing it, and DILLING provides the tools and materials to make basic repairs to knitted and woven wool items at home. The repair products available include darning wool for patching holes in knitted garments, and materials for addressing common wear points such as elbows, cuffs, and heels.

The repair products range at DILLING covers darning wool in natural colours matched to DILLING garment colourways, and basic repair accessories suited to home use without specialist skills.

When to Repair Rather Than Replace

Most damage to knitted wool garments takes the form of small holes, worn patches at high-friction areas, or minor snags. All of these can be addressed with basic repair materials before they develop into damage that is more difficult to fix. A small hole in a merino base layer repaired early with a matching darning wool is invisible in use and extends the garment's life by years. Leaving the same hole unrepaired for a season results in a much larger area of damage that may make repair impractical. The most resource-efficient point to repair is always as early as possible.

Darning Wool

Darning wool at DILLING is matched to the weights and colourways used in DILLING knitted garments. Using a matching or closely matched darning wool produces a repair that is close to invisible in use. Darning, weaving new fibres across a hole to recreate the original fabric structure, requires no specialist equipment beyond a darning needle and produces a repair that holds up to washing and wear when done correctly.

Common Repair Points on Wool Garments

The most common wear points on knitted wool garments are the elbows of sweaters and cardigans, the heels and toes of socks, and the cuffs of gloves and sleeves. These areas experience repeated friction during wear. Regular inspection of these areas after washing allows small wear patches to be identified and repaired before they develop into holes. A worn area can be reinforced with darning wool before it breaks through, which is faster and easier than repairing a hole after the fact.

Care

Full instructions for using each repair product are included in the product packaging. For guidance on caring for wool and other natural fibre garments between repairs, see the DILLING care guide.
