The practical difference between baby socks and baby tights relates to coverage and ease of use during nappy changes. Socks cover the foot and ankle, leaving the lower leg and nappy area accessible. Tights cover the foot through to the waist, providing warmth across the whole lower body without a gap at the ankle between the sock and a trouser leg. For nappy-age babies, tights with a snap at the crotch (or without, accepting that the waistband needs to come down during changes) are common in colder months. Socks are simpler to change but may leave a cold gap at the ankle in draughty environments.
Organic cotton baby socks and tights are breathable and suited to everyday use in warm indoor environments. Cotton is comfortable against a baby's sensitive skin and straightforward to machine wash at standard temperatures. Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides. Cotton socks and tights are the practical choice for daily rotation in a centrally heated home in all but the coldest months.
Merino wool baby socks provide light insulation and temperature regulation for babies in cooler environments. Merino's fine fibres are soft against a baby's skin without irritation, and merino manages light moisture from a baby's feet without feeling damp. Merino socks are suited to use in cool indoor environments, outdoor pram use in autumn and winter, and as an additional layer over cotton socks in very cold conditions.

A baby's feet and lower legs lose heat quickly because circulation to the extremities is less efficient than in adults, which makes keeping a baby's feet covered in appropriate materials important in cool environments. Baby socks and tights at DILLING are sized by age and foot length. A sock or tight that is too small will restrict circulation at the ankle; one that is too large will not stay in place. Elastic at the ankle should provide a secure fit without leaving a visible mark after removal. Each product page provides the foot length and age range covered by each size.
Organic cotton baby socks and tights can be machine washed at 40°C. Merino wool baby socks should be washed on a wool cycle at 30°C and laid flat to dry. Full care instructions are on each product label.
