Merino wool in everyday life

Little ones. Big changes in temperature.
The shirt? Not necessarily.
Life creates enough laundry.
When life is growing.

Merino wool:

The laundry basket has a habit of filling itself. Luckily, your wool clothing doesn't always have to add to the pile. Often, you can simply hang it up to air and wear it again. It might not give you more hours in the day, but it can mean one less thing to do – and a little more time for the things you'd rather be doing.

helps regulate body temperature

The world is a big place when you're little. Temperatures, surfaces and surroundings change throughout the day. One moment, you're snuggled up close. The next, there's a whole world to explore. Wool naturally helps regulate body temperature, keeping things comfortable through all those little changes in the day.

works for the office too

A working day isn't just meetings and hours in front of a screen. There's the commute to work, the lunch break, errands on the way home and everything in between. Merino wool is comfortable to wear through it all. A soft merino wool top looks right at home under a blazer, giving you the comfort you want throughout a long day.

streches

Suddenly, you need to make a little more room. In the family, in everyday life – and not least in your clothes. Merino wool is naturally flexible and has some give as your body moves and changes. Making room for a growing bump and everything else the day has in store.

What makes merino wool special?

The short answer is the fibres. Merino wool comes from merino sheep and is known for its exceptionally fine wool fibres. They bend more easily against the skin than coarser wool fibres, which is why merino wool feels soft and comfortable – even when worn directly against the body. And that matters. Because all wool's other properties don't count for much if you don't actually want to wear it.

Made for life's changes

An ordinary day can make a surprising number of demands on what you're wearing. Cold air as you step outside. Warmth as you pick up the pace. Hours spent sitting still. Afternoons with a little more going on.

It's in these changes that merino wool's natural properties really come into their own. The naturally crimped fibres trap insulating air, while their ability to absorb and release moisture helps manage the moisture around your body. Together, these properties help influence both temperature and moisture in the microclimate next to your skin. In everyday terms, that's what we experience as comfort.

It also means the same clothes can work for you through more of the day's changes.

A day in merino wool

Perhaps the best clothes are the ones you don't have to think too much about. They keep you warm when the air turns cold, allow your body to release heat when you pick up the pace, and feel comfortable as you go about your day.

We do things differently

Good wool is where it starts. But what happens to it afterwards matters, too. Two pieces of clothing can both be made from merino wool and still be the result of very different processes.

Many wool products undergo a Superwash treatment using chlorine and a synthetic polymer coating to make them more resistant to harsh treatment. We do things differently. At our own dyehouse in Denmark, we use an enzyme treatment instead, making the wool soft and comfortable without releasing chlorine or coating the fibres in plastic.

By preserving wool's natural structure, we also preserve the properties that make merino wool such a special natural material.

Little life hacks for everyday life

Air out before you wash

Did you know that sometimes all your wool needs is a little fresh air? Merino wool naturally slows the development of odours, so airing it out is often enough. A little less laundry. A little more time for something else.

Little life hacks for everyday life

Hack 01

Air out before you wash

Did you know that sometimes all your wool needs is a little fresh air? Merino wool naturally slows the development of odours, so airing it out is often enough. A little less laundry. A little more time for something else.

Hack 02

Let them play

Children can work up a sweat in no time when they're having fun. Luckily, merino wool can absorb moisture and allow the body to breathe, helping clothes feel comfortable – even through all the running, jumping and rough-and-tumble play.

Hack 03

Wool at work

Perhaps you mostly associate merino wool with practical clothing? But a merino wool top can also make a lovely alternative to a shirt under your blazer. It's soft against the skin and helps regulate moisture and temperature – all day long.

Hack 04

Breastfeeding calls for flexibility

Did you know that a merino wool top can be rather practical when you're breastfeeding? The soft, naturally flexible fibres give the material a degree of stretch, allowing the top to give a little when you need to lift it or pull it to one side. And at the same time, the wool helps keep you warm.

Hack 05

Fleece under a snowsuit or waterproofs

Waterproofs keep the rain out. But when playtime gets going, the body can still produce moisture from within. A layer of merino wool fleece can absorb moisture into its fibres and help maintain a more comfortable microclimate next to the skin.

The properties of merino wool

Soft

How soft wool feels depends partly on the thickness of its fibres. This is measured in microns (μm) – one thousandth of a millimetre. Tiny numbers that make a noticeable difference. Our merino wool fibres range from 17.5 to 21.5 μm. These fine, flexible fibres bend more easily against the skin than coarser wool fibres.

Temperature-regulating

Merino wool fibres are naturally crimped. This creates tiny pockets of still air between them, providing insulation and helping to reduce heat loss from the body to its surroundings. At the same time, the fibres can absorb and release moisture as conditions around the body change. It's this combination that helps maintain a comfortable temperature close to your skin as the day shifts between cold and warm, rest and movement.

Breathable

Merino wool has an open fibre structure that allows air, heat and moisture to move through the material. It makes a difference when your body warms up – whether you're cycling or running around the playground. So you can focus on what you're doing, rather than what you're wearing.

Odour-resistant

Merino wool fibres can absorb moisture and bind odour-causing substances within their structure. As a result, merino wool typically develops unwanted odours more slowly and can often be worn several times between washes. Sometimes, all it needs is a little fresh air. After all, one less wash is one less thing on your to-do list.

Moisture-absorbing

Wool is hygroscopic. This means its fibres can absorb moisture from the body in the form of water vapour and release it again later. A pretty useful property on days that go from full speed to a moment of calm.
