Lambswool is wool shorn from a lamb during its first shearing, typically at around seven months of age. Because the fibres have not yet been cut, they retain a natural tapered tip that makes lambswool softer against the skin than wool shorn in later shearings. The result is a natural fibre that is genuinely soft while retaining the warmth, breathability and natural elasticity that makes wool an effective cold-weather clothing material. Lambswool is used in knitwear where softness against the skin is important, providing a comfortable natural fibre that can be worn next to the skin without the scratch typical of coarser wool types.

After washing, reshape the garment and lay it flat to dry rather than hanging, which can stretch damp wool out of shape. Avoid tumble drying on high heat, which can cause wool to shrink and felt.
