In summer, a cotton tank top worn alone is the most practical option for a warm indoor or outdoor environment: it provides coverage without adding warmth. In cooler conditions, a merino tank top worn under a long-sleeved top or jacket adds a layer of insulation at the core without the bulk of a full base layer top with sleeves.
