It is no secret that we love wool and its amazing qualities. Unfortunately, so do moths. Therefore, it is important to take precautions in relation to use, storage, and cleaning. We have here gathered four pieces of advice so you can avoid moths and secure your products so they will last a long time.
1. Wear your woollen clothingIf you wear your clothing it is easy to keep the moths away. Moths do not attack clothing in circulation that is worn frequently. In contrast, if your woollen clothing is unworn for weeks, it is important that you take the below precautions into consideration.
2. Store your woollen clothing in airtight bags or boxesBy storing your clean woollen clothing in airtight bags or boxes, it is not possible for the moths to get through to your clothing. Also, if you have experienced a plague of moths, we recommend storage in airtight bags or boxes to deprive any surviving larvae of oxygen.
3. Keep your close cleanHousehold dust is present in all homes and it is especially difficult to avoid in a closet or bedroom where you often store your clothing. However, dust and dirt can attract moths. Therefore, it is a good idea to vacuum and clean your wardrobe regularly.
4. Add a scentCedarwood, lavender and lemon have multiple good qualities: they have a lovely scent, but they can also help keep moths away. Therefore, it can be advantageous for you to add cedarwood or place dried flowers in a little fabric bag and put it in the bag or box where your store your woollen clothing.
IN CASE OF A MOTH ATTACK
Unfortunately, plagues of moths can take place. The best thing to do is wash and dry your clothing. When it is completely dry, store it in an airtight bag or box to deprive any surviving larvae of oxygen. You can also hang your clothing in frosty weather or put the clothing in your freezer for 24 hours. Vacuum and clean your closet before you put your clothes in again.
If you often experience plagues of moths, we recommend buying a moth trap.
